- 01 Scope read before a price Drawings read or the space walked before a number goes out. If the scope as drawn will not build, we say so before you award it.
- 02 Written scope, finish level stated Level 4 or Level 5 in writing. Most quotes leave it vague, which is exactly what makes them impossible to compare.
- 03 Masking & dust containment Floors and doorways in plastic, adjacent rooms sealed on bigger jobs. Real labor that cheaper bids simply omit.
- 04 Three coats, properly dried Each coat dries fully before the next. A one-day quote on a three-coat repair is a quote to skip a coat.

Every job ends with a walk-through under a work light — the harshest lighting the wall will ever face. If the texture reads wrong or a seam shows under that light, it hasn’t passed, and we keep working until it does.
That’s the whole reason we sample texture on scrap first instead of guessing on your wall. It costs us an extra hour. It’s the difference between a repair and a patch.

Ask us directly+Will I be able to see the patch afterwards?
Not if the texture and the paint sheen match. Two things give a patch away: a texture slightly coarser or finer than its surroundings, and a spot of fresh paint at a different sheen. We handle the first by sampling on scrap before we commit. For the second, painting the whole wall corner to corner is always the better result — and we’ll tell you when spot-painting is going to show.
+What’s this going to cost me?
Five things drive it: access, texture difficulty, number of coats, what’s behind the wall, and how much containment an occupied home needs. That’s why we won’t quote a real number over the phone — anyone who does is guessing and will revise it later. The estimate is in person and in writing, and you’re under no obligation once you’ve it.
+How bad is the dust going to be?
Sanding joint compound makes fine dust — there’s no way around that, only ways to contain it. Floors and doorways go in plastic, adjacent rooms get sealed on bigger jobs, and we clean at the end of every day rather than at the end of the job. You almost never need to move out; on multi-room work we sequence rooms so you always have somewhere clean.
+Why does a one-day repair take three days?
The labor is a few hours. The calendar is set by drying. Compound has to dry fully before the next coat or the one above it shrinks and cracks, and a proper repair gets three coats plus texture plus primer. Near the coast, winter humidity can add most of a day between coats. A contractor promising to finish a three-coat repair in an afternoon is promising to skip a coat.
+My crack keeps coming back. Can you actually fix it?
Recurring cracks are movement, not bad taping. We rout the crack out and reinforce it with the tape suited to that joint, which holds in most cases. Where the movement is structural we’ll tell you so and point you at the right trade, rather than selling you the same repair a second time.
